Sour cream is produced by the lactic acid in dairy cream and is fermented to create a unique creamy texture with a sour taste. Many people have eaten sour cream for centuries. People use sour cream for all sorts of foods like Mexican foods, baked potatoes, and many more.

Is sour cream keto? Well, sour cream has about 198 calories, 4.63 grams of carbohydrates, 2.44g of protein, and 23.3.g of fat. One cup is a decent amount of sour cream. Most people only consume a few tablespoons as an extra part of a meal.

Are There Health Benefits to Sour Cream?

Sour cream is packed with all kinds of vitamins and minerals. Not only does sour cream taste great, but it’s also nutritious. Fermented dairy products, like sour cream, have been researched to show unique benefits to the human body.

Sour Cream contains special bacteria called Lactobacillus and Streptococcus. Several studies have shown these bacterias to have beneficial health effects. Fermented dairy consumption has been linked to fewer instances of cardiovascular disease. It can also be beneficial to gut health. This is likely also due to the bacteria that are found in sour cream. It can help with gastrointestinal health.  Sour cream also contains many probiotics that you won’t find in regular cream.

Sour cream is rich in nutrients such as Phosphorus,  Vitamin A, and Riboflavin. These vitamins and minerals can help with many things. Phosphorus plays a vital role in strengthening our bones and maintaining dental health. Vitamin A is essential for our eyesight, immune system, and optimal bone growth. Riboflavin produces energy through the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins.

With all of that said, I think we can determine that sour cream is nutritious and delicious but is sour cream keto?

We mentioned the nutrition facts for the sour cream above. If you’re well versed in macronutrients you can probably guess the answer to the question is sour cream keto? The short answer is yes. Sour cream contains only about 5g of carbs per cup and 3g of that from sugar. However, most people aren’t consuming an entire cup of sour cream in one sitting.

Sour cream is a very natural and nutritious food. It’s packed with vitamins and minerals that are very beneficial to the human body. I will gladly trade a few carbs for the nutritional boost that I get from sour cream. The calcium alone is enough to help bone growth but the phosphorus, vitamin A and riboflavin are added benefits. Plus the unique combination of bacteria has shown several health benefits that cannot be denied.

Hopefully, we answered the question: is sour cream keto with a resounding, yes! If you like sour cream then eat up. I like to add on top of salads, Mexican style food, and even with a little bit of pico de gallo on my eggs in the morning. Just don’t go overboard and eat an entire tub of the stuff.
